Other informationEdit

  • In 2014, Sophia was named Junior Female Best Dancer at The Dance Awards in NYC.[12]
  • Sophia thought it was funny that Dance Moms portrayed her as having so little schooling, and wished that were really true. She added that besides seeing a teacher at least twice a week in one-on-one sessions, she does around six hours of homework per day.[13]
  • Of her dances on the show, Sophia best liked "Suprstr" and "Red Carpet Special".[14] Sophia said there were issues with "Red Carpet Special" because they only rehearsed it once.
  • Sophia has known Asia Monet Ray since Asia was two-years-old, and calls her "my little diva."[15]
  • Sophia once estimated she danced twenty-five to thirty-five hours per week.[16][17] In 2014, she was training 35 to 40 hours per week.[18]
  • Rick Testerman, Jalen Testerman's father, set-up Sophia's Twitter account, including selecting her user name.[19]
  • Sophia was introduced to dance by her cousin Kristen Hibbs[16][20], now owner of San Diego Dance Centre.[21]
  • Sophia began dancing at age two, and entered her first dance competition at age three.[16]
  • At the Xpression competition in Fort Wayne filmed for Out With the Old, In With the New, Sophia won $1,000, besides finishing first.[10]
  • Her favorite dance styles are jazz and contemporary.[16]
  • When she was younger, she said that she wanted to be on the hit show, So You Think You Can Dance?. In 2016, she fulfilled this dream by auditioning for the 13th season of the show. Her audition can be watched here.
    • Nigel Lythgoe, the producer and director of the show, complimented Sophia on Twitter saying "I think this young lady is rather special, don't you?".[22]
  • In an interview with OnTheSpotInterviews at the Guiness World Record Celebration, Sophia stated that the main reasons that she and her mother left "Dance Moms" were that her grandfather had a heart attack and they wanted to be there for him, and that her mother didn't want any controversy for her.[23]
  • Sophia's older cousin, Nicole "Niki" Lucia[24], owns Danceology in San Diego.[25] This is also her old dance studio.
  • Sophia accepts fan mail at: Sophia Lucia; PO Box 503385; San Diego, CA 92128.[26]

  • One of the special skills listed in her resume is karate.[9]
  • In late 2015, she participated in a YouTube series named "Teen Dance Challenge" alongside Talia Seitel, Lucy Vallely, Chloe East and Sean Lew.[27] In December, she was announced as the winner.[28]
